Xcoff relocation types not supported?

I've compiled binutils version 2.12 with the following options...

./configure --host=rs6000-ibm-aix4.3.3.0

and using gcc with the version...

gcc version 3.0.2

The attached assembley file reports the following errors...

test.as:33: Error: reloc 229 not supported by object file format
test.as:38: Error: reloc 229 not supported by object file format

...so my question is: are blca's (and perhaps other branch conditionals)
not supported in the xcoff format?
