linking of xine 0.9.9 bombs with internal error

I've tried to compile latest version of xine with latest version of 
binutils (2.12) an ld doesn't link.

I'm using a Redhat 7.2 on a Pentium III 450 Mhz with gcc 2.95.3, and 
glibc 2.2.4.
The package I try to link is xine-lib-0.9.9 and the error is

gcc -shared  xine_decoder.o   -lvorbis -lm  -Wl,-soname 
-Wl,xineplug_decode_vorbis.so -o .libs/xineplug_decode_vorbis.so
/usr/local/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: BFD 2.12 internal error, aborting 
at elf32-i386.c line 2147 in elf_i386_finish_dynamic_symbol
