Install bug for gawk-${VERSION} |

Hi,
I'm playing with Linux From Scratch. This is probably unusual - we start
by building a few packages with static linking (on a host distro), then we
use these to build glibc, then we rebuild with dynamic linking.
We used to use mawk, but we switched to gawk-3.1.0. I've noticed that
after rebuilding gawk with dynamic linking we have gawk-3.1.0 left as a
statically linked file. The equivalent problem is still there with
gawk-3.1.1.
What seems to be happening is that gawk and gawk-${VERSION} are hard
links to the same file. When we install the dynamically linked gawk, gawk
itself is reinstalled but gawk-${VERSION} is neither removed nor
recreated. This is primarily a problem if you reinstall on top of the
existing binary, but I imagine you could see something similar when
upgrading, e.g. when you are running gawk-3.1.0 and install 3.1.1, I think
you will still have the gawk-3.1.0 binary remaining (I haven't tried
this).
The big question is, do you agree this is a bug, or is it a feature of
the way Linux From Scratch is presently installed ?
