I tried building BFD on i686-pc-linux-gnu, and got a cryptic error in
the /po subdirectory. I tried it with --disable-nls, and got a slightly
different cryptic error in the /po subdirectory.
Finally I managed to trace the problem down to the absence of 'msgfmt'
and 'xgettext' on my machine. Once I installed them, everything was fine.
But a better error message would be greatly appreciated. :-P
