Bug when colon in filename

Hello,
there is a bug in GNU tar on Solaris 8:

tar cvf /homea/web/users//save/ares_cgi_bin_Tue_Oct__8_07:40:45_2002.tar 
/homea/web/users//cgi-bin/ares/*
sh: unknown host
tar: Cannot open 
/homea/web/users//save/ares_cgi_bin_Tue_Oct__8_07:40:45_2002.tar: I/O error
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

When I changed tar to /usr/bin/tar, all was OK.

When I changed the semicolons in the date part of the filename to dashes, all 
was OK again.
