I got sort of interested in this, so I tried the above experiment. It
wasn't very conclusive, though, because the glibc shipped with RH
7.3 (verion 2.2.5.-34) doesn't seem to have the new regex lib; there are
only regex.c and regex.h files--no regcomp.c, regex_internal.c,
regex_internal.h, and regexec.c. (The RH 7.3 regex.c and regex.h files
*are* slightly different from the grep-CVS versions in several places.)
FWIW, grep 2.5.1 CVS still compiles cleanly and passes all tests on RH
6.2, RH 7.3 and QNX 6.2 when I replace regex.c and regex.h with the RH
7.3 versions. Not sure what that means, but oh, well... 8-)
So, I guess the question is: *should* the Bond test fail with the regex
files from glibc-CVS? Perhaps this is a known issue. Any idea how we
can find out? Except for this one problem, the new regex files seem to
'drop right in'...
