The flag "--backup" allows for the automatic
numbering of multi-volume archives when outputted to a standard file. EG: "tar
-c --backup=t -L 100000 -f /usr/backups/var /var"
Tar does not have any built-in method for reading
numbered archives, it seems. Is there any such option built into tar, or is it
necessary to have a script take care of renaming as tar requests successive
parts of the archive?
