errors are not reported properly

I would like to report the following defect found in :

GNU assembler 2.11.92.0.10 (SuSE)
Copyright 2001 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This program is free software; you may redistribute it under the terms of
the GNU General Public License.  This program has absolutely no warranty.
This assembler was configured for a target of `i486-suse-linux'.

All errors must be reported in the listing file.

If using the assembler as in

as aap.s -a=aap.l -o aap.o 2>/dev/null

I miss out on important errors.

To add insult to injury even the message reporting the number of fatal
errors is not reported in the listing file!
