I would like to report the following defect found in :
GNU assembler 2.11.92.0.10 (SuSE)
Copyright 2001 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This program is free software; you may redistribute it under the terms of
the GNU General Public License. This program has absolutely no warranty.
This assembler was configured for a target of `i486-suse-linux'.
The as assembler doesn't really support the elf format for objects.
Even if generating elf files only a.out sections are supported.
To add insult to injury this is nowhere stated in the documentation.
(But this is a defect in its own right and reported as such.)
I would like to add the following observation :
I am the author of ciforth, an implementation of Forth ISO,
and I would like to make this a Debian package that can be
build on top of the basic programming tools in a distribution.
For the DEC Alpha I can do this, but not for the Intel 386.
Yours truly, Albert
