That should have been "breaking".

Of course, I'm willing to balance the speed of C and non-C locales.

What I meant was that I have to be very careful so that grep won't
sudennly give incorrect results under the good old C locale.

That was why the gawk bug report scared me so much, that I need to
evaluate it really carefully.

PS: Thanks to Arnold (the gawk maintainer) who told me about this
