Localization resources

Looking at the May 6, 2002 version of the gettext manual at 
http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/html_mono/gettext.html, 
I wonder why it has not been updated. It should at least take 
note of the much wider range of Linux localization projects in 
Asia and Africa that I described in my blog on March 6, 2004 
(http://cherlin.blogspot.com/2004_03_01_cherlin_archive.html#localization) 
and the UN Development Program's draft Localisation HOWTO at 
http://www.iosn.net/l10n/l10n-howto-toolkit/guide.pdf.

I would be happy to work with you on updating the part of the 
manual that talks about how to organize a localization project 
and what has been going on. This is of vital importance in our 
ongoing program of designing, building, and deploying computers 
for the poor of the world, including villagers who have no 
access to electricity or phones.

A few days ago I submitted a draft of an updated Unicode HOWTO, 
which deals with the other end of the problem--how to get 
software to deal with all languages in data. We now have three 
contending Unicode rendering engines (GTK Pango, SIL Graphite, 
and QT Scribe), a KDE regex widget, IBM's ICU Unicode libraries, 
and a number of distros that offer UTF-8 locales as installation 
options.
