Please read the quote again.  It explicitly states that extensions are
allowed.  Given that the GNU extensions to ERE are documented, and neither
of the quoted constucts are among them, these regexps are in fact
malformed in the context of GNU grep.

POSIX very well acknowledges the existence of extensions.
