The submitter says this is fixed in the current development version
(which I should not put in debian unstable).

Are there plans to release diffutils 2.9 sometime?

Hi,

I downloaded the diffutils 2.8.7 sources and this bug seems fixed
there (according to the ChangeLog, it was fixed in 2.8.6).
