Numeric Error that is also present in UNIX awk/nawk

The following generates the wrong number:

*       gawk 'BEGIN { print int(16.240*1000); exit }'

The numeric error occurs on Linux, SUN and SGI. For UNIX versions, the
same error occurs for old and new AWK. Versions tested:

*       GNU Awk 3.1.4
*       Sun OS 5.8 Generic 111111-01 March 2001 [retrieved using "what"
command]
*       SGI

Gawk/nawk/oawk all generate the same output. Errors also occurs when
value is "16.220".
