Like I said, I no longer REALLY remember why I found this necessary; I'm just guessing at this point. I really should been more proactive about submitting patches all along; that way these sorts of things would have been resolved (even rejected) while I still remembered why I did what I did and when I did it.
2) autogen.sh: I needed to upgrade to libtool-1.5.20 for full cygwin DLL support, so I added libtoolize. However, because it must be invoked at the toplevel, yet toplevel configure.ac doesn't invoke libtool, m4/libtool.m4 never gets updated. Hence this hack.The gettext CVS already uses libtool-1.5.20.
Yay! Happy camper, me.I guess you just manually update the appropriate files when you upgrade? That may not be as simple as you like once libtool-2.0 hits the streets; there are several .m4 files that (sometimes, only if necessary) are copied into the project by libtoolize, incl. libtool.m4, ltdl.m4, argz.m4, lt~obsolete.m4, ...)
