Thanks for the fixes. I will probably apply them.

Having written multiple books in docbook, I happen to disagree with you,
rather strongly, as to how wonderful it is.  I think it sucks, and would
rather work in texinfo, which can generate docbook if need be. (I've
gone that route for two books --- written in Texinfo and then generated
docbook for production. Worked well.)

In any case, the gawk man page will remain in troff for the forseeable
future.
