xgettext: needs a way to set header fields in PO files |

Hello.
Some time ago (I apologize for taking so long to process this report),
Branden Robinson reported a bug against po-debconf, but it was later
reassigned to gettext. Here is the summary by Denis Barbier:
I am asked in 251643 to add some functionality to po-debconf so that
maintainers can easily change header fields in PO files. This is IMO
a bad idea, maintainers should *never* modify PO files except for fixing
bugs and wrong translations (and also change copyright notice yearly);
maybe you have a different point of view, so I clone and reassign this
bugreport to gettext.
In particular for the Project-Id-Version field, it is pretty clear to me
that this field tells which version translator had worked on last, but
this is not clearly stated in documentation, so one can also assume that
all PO files shipped in a tarball have to be set to the current version
number.
So please either provide more options to xgettext in order to change
header fields (and also header comment) or update documentation to state
that the lack of such options means that only translators have to fill in
these fields.
Note: I don't know how exactly po-debconf interacts with xgettext, but
I'm sure the CCed people will be able to give details if required.
Thanks.
