It isn't common, the Git project is very odd in using it, but it
doesn't conflict with anything so it's OK to add it.
The Perl section in the manual also has to be updated if it hasn't already:
15.5.18 Perl
------------
RPMs
perl
File extension
`pl', `PL', `pm', `cgi'
That should list 'perl' too.
