thanks for your efforts.

Its back to 3.0.3 for me.

I don't like the locale stuff, and the environment variable doesn't seem to make any difference. I get the join hang on two XP machines. For all I know on 98 too.

Hi. Apologies for the delay in replying to this.

I don't work with Windows, and on my Linux system both 3.1.6
and the current version, 3.1.8, work fine. I suggest you try to get
a copy of 3.1.8 for Windows.  Cygwin tends to work pretty well and is
what I use on my Windows system at work.

Hi

This error can be circumvented by using a different version of the gawk
program. I believe it was introduced by a system update. The automatic
(a2p) perl translation works on my system. Unfortunately the awk version
still fails on my new system. I thought it possible that the previous
XP system was not in good order.

C:\chris\progs\join>gawk -f join.awk a.txt b.txt
gawk: join.awk:33: fatal error: internal error (SIGSEGV)

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
