"locale" means your international settings, e.g., many European countries
use , as decimal separator instead of .

If I read your file in the US locale I get "invalid file" whereas if I
read it in the Italian locale I can both view and add player records.

Do you have a backup copy of the previous build you've downloaded, so
you can try with that one?

The latest changes to the player records was:

2002-10-28: do not complain while adding a player record complain if
            .gnubgpr was not found
2002-09-30: remove .gnubgpr before replacing it with the new version

So both adding and viewing results in a crash?

You can send you .gnubgpr file to the mailing-list. Perhaps some of the
other users or developers can try your file.
