Attached is a jpg of my attempt at improving the logo, and below are my
thoughts on the different aspects of it. Let me know if I'm trying to change
too much or if you otherwise dislike it.
SIZE
The current logo on www.gnubg.org looks huge to me, I think it's better at a
more modest size. Also, it needs to work well at very small sizes for links
on other sites.
COMPOSITION
I've moved the gnu forward. This forms a nicer overall shape with the
lettering, and it gives the impression of the gnu advancing rather than
being trapped within the clutter of the points.
COLOURS
I've stayed very close to the current colours, but do these need to fall
within the "web safe" spectrum? If so then there may be a problem finding
the right yellow.
LETTERING
The typeface I've used is Myriad Bold, quite simple without being too plain.
DETAIL
I've dropped the dice which I think are redundant since we have the word
"Backgammon" quite large under the logo. And have also removed all detail
from the gnu just leaving the silhouette. The shape of the animal is
distinctive enough, and it's better keeping it simple.
If anyone else would like to work on this I've created an Illustrator vector
file of the artwork.
BTW, did you know that a gnu is the exact same animal as a wildebeest? I
knew they were both African antelopes but the names conjure up rather
different images in my mind.
