Ah, I'm using the old layout and never run gnubg maximized so this never
occured to me. As you note the problem is that the Windows setting for an
executable only applies to the very first opened window. But since this is
the (first) splash screen it doesn't effect the main window. So currently
there's no solution. Just a hint for an easier woraround: double clicking
anywhere on the title bar of a window also maximizes/restores it. This is
usually easier than hitting this small icon at the top right.

For the developers: Could the main window (empty frame) already be opened
hidden before the splash screen?
