Therfore I use GNUBG a lot for recording
moves. Going back and forth sometimes uses crashing of GNUBG. Especially
when I want to correct the first move in a new game, GNUBG is crashing
of freezes and all moves recorded before are lost.

Let me just confirm that this has happened relatively often for me too. Navigating in matches sometimes leads to freezes, and I know I should be really careful when I've been editing (a lot) in such a match, it nearly always crashes at some point then.

Related: When GNUBG is set to start new games immediately, it presents you with a new game and opening roll after finishing a game. If at that point you want to stop the match or session and "cancel" the opening move (perhaps editing it or trying to continue from there later), my experience is that you're almost certain to run into crashing trouble at some point. So I've made it a habit to NEVER try and cancel/edit opening moves, as a work-around.

Hope this helps the GNUbg team,
