In fact there was a version of GNU Backgammon that had cheating code. It wasn't hidden, however; as I understand it, the idea behind it was to demonstrate what real cheating looks like, and thereby to demonstrate how the non-cheat mode was nothing like that. But of course this plan was a failure and I believe that most GNU developers regretted that episode.

In any case, it looks like most people in this thread don't understand the points I'm making (which I guess I should have anticipated since I'm trying to use logic to convey it...) so I'll let the matter drop.
