Since the OP is using Linux, I wanted him to know that gnubg support of hypergammon under Linux appears to be intact. Under Ubuntu, the makehyper utility is available in /usr/games, alongside the gnubg binary. As for Windows, someone else will need to respond.

Based on the output you posted, it seems that either the makehyper utility was not installed, or it was installed in a location that is not in your path. Out of curiosity, does gnubg run if you enter the keyword gnubg, as you did for makehyper? If not, that suggests a path-related issue.

I’ve retested on windows: GNU Backgammon 1.06.002-mingw 32-Bit 20180802

This is the output I get.

makehyper -c 2 -f hyper2.bd

Unknown keyword `makehyper'.

Hypergammon is supported. See Philippe's recent reply. I can confirm that the info he offered is correct for Ubuntu. I just used

makehyper -c 2 -f hyper2.bd

to generate the database for two-checker hypergammon. Generation took 52 seconds. Alas, generation of the three-checker database will take a lot longer. After I moved the two-checker database file to /var/lib/gnubg/, the option to play two-checker hypergammon became available.

Hi Ezequiel,

I'm afraid it looks like gnubg may no longer support hypergammon, even though the options are still there in the gui.
