[Bug-gnupod] gnupod problem

Hello. First of all, let me say that I love the GNUpod utilities.
Command line is just the way I want to interface with the iPod.

So I'm really not sure if the issues I'm experiencing are due to GNUpod or
not. So before I begin, please let me appologize if this inquiry is
misdirected. I have been able to find very little information or
discussion on the web that would help me though, so I'm going to give this
a shot.

I have been trying to use GNUpod with an HFS+ formated late 2004 20G iPod
that I have not converted to fat32 since I do occasionally use a mac. I
am running Debian sarge (kernel 2.4.26) with the hfsplus utilities. My
method of mounting the ipod looks something like this:

sudo hpmount /dev/sda3
mount /mnt/ipod

with a line in /etc/fstab:

/dev/sda3 /mnt/ipod hfsplus noauto,user 0 0

This all seems to mount the ipod correctly. It shows up correctly in
mount, and I am able to see the file structure no problem. I am also
using the gnupod-tools installed from the debian apt-get

The problems started when I tried to use gnupod_addsong to add a bunch of
files, the total size of which were larger than the remaining space on the
ipod. Although I could see that the latter files failed to load, I didn't
immediately notice other problems. However, the ipod started to report
incorrect disk usage and a df -h of the ipod shows:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 19G -64Z 16T 101% /mnt/ipod

There was also a problem with the gnuPodDB being incomplete, the closing
</file> and </gnupod> not being written. This was causing the
gnupod_search to report that there were missing files.

I realize that the use of hfsplus in kernel 2.4 is still new, and that
this issue might have to do with the way that I am mounting the ipod with
the hfsplus utilities.

I don't know if it's related or not, but I am getting a debug message
whenever I use gnupod_search that says immediately after invocation:

debug: _itb_needs_sync called(3256)
debug: otgsync need? (request from 3256)
FooBar.pm: Could not execute /usr/bin/gnupod_otgsync.pl, autosync SKIPPED!
Looks like GNUpod isn't installed correct! did you run 'make install?'

Again, I sincerely appolgize if these problems are out of your domain.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts, though. Thanks again and
keep up the good work.

jamie.

ps. is there a reason that you did not write a script to copy song off of
the ipod? I was going to do this myself, but was just curious.
