I second that! I oranized my collection like this

  + artistname - albumname4

  + compilationname1
    + CD1
    + CD2
  + compilationname2
  .
  .
  .
+ _audiobooks
  + title1
    + CD1
    + CD2
    + CD3
    .
    .
    .

multi-cd albums are organized in subfolders and artwork is (windows explorer 
compatible) a folder.(jpg|gif) file in the album directory. 

I have seen the same kind of organization with other people so I guess
it is quite common.
