I tried to use Icecat from version 38.x.x but now now no one provides builds for macOS. That's why I bought some RAM fro my late 2012 mac and now I can provide contrib builds for macOS if users need this. For my builds I use these steps:

$ wget -c https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/52.0.2/icecat-52.0.2-gnu1.tar.bz2

$ tar xjvf icecat-52.0.2-gnu1.tar.bz2

$ cd icecat-52.0.2

$ mkdir objdir

$ mkdir -p ./browser/branding/unofficial/moz.build

$ cd objdir/

$ ../configure --with-l10n-base=../l10n --enable-official-branding

$ make -j2

$ make package
