A workaround is to use New Tab Override
(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/) to
show another page on New Tab (but you have to configure it) as
recommended by Mozilla:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hide-or-display-sites-new-tab-page#w_disable-new-tab-controls.
My personal low-tech workaround is just to set the following value in
about:config :
browser.newtabpage.enabled;false
This makes the new tab page essentially the same as about:blank
Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it solves the security
issue without introducing an additional add-on.
