Hmm, that raises a couple of interesting questions.

Is it an error to specify a family where some font styles are missing if the
document never asks to use those styles?

Is it an error to specify a family where _all_ font styles are missing if the
document never actually uses that family? (e.g., specifying "-fZD" on the
command line to process a document whose first line is ".fam T")
