Janus,

Another option is to reinstall Mandrake, then as root type: dd if=virgin.mbr 
of=/dev/hda
then delete Mandrake again.  virgin.mbr is is attached and must be in the 
current working directory
that the command is executed.  Also hda is your hard drive location.  This may 
be differnet on your
machine depending if you have a scsi or a ide drive, and which bus it is on.  
If you are not sure
type 'df' (without quotes) and under Filesystem it will list at least one 
device (eg /dev/hdc3 or
/dev/sdb2).  If it is /dev/hdc3, then replace hda with hdc.

Hope this fixes your problem
