the best way is to put all the grub files into the directory /boot/grub
on linux, they could go in any dir really. and then from linux run the
grub shell:

address@hidden:~ $ grub

and then from there. do something like:

grub> root (hd0,1)
grub> setup (hd0)

and this depends on if linux is the second partition on the first drive.
maybe you should start by reading some more of the documentation.

what the above commands do is install stage1 into the mbr and tell
stage1 that the other images are on the second partition of the first
drive. counting starts at 0.

depending on what linux distro your running they may already have tools
to do this stuff for you.
