Hi,
I have been using LILO for a long time working with the lba32 option.
Recently I installed GRUB hoping to play with the serial communication
features of it. (Not because any GRUB feature was necessary on my
system).
After grub-install on my main hard drive, I rebooted and was presented
with an error 18 at stage 1.5 (before the menu appears). I rescued,
reinstalled lilo, and everything was ok. Tried grub again with
--force-lba and --root-directory=/boot, same thing happened.
One oddity about my system that I should mention is that the BIOS
apparently has no clue what the proper size of my hard drive is. It
detects the geometry properly, but thinks a 20gb drive is a 524mb drive.
:) I have the latest BIOS and don't really have any idea what that
problem could be. But lilo boots it fine using lba32 addressing.
So, does anyone have a clue what the problem could be? I am running
Debian testing with grub version 0.93+cvs20030224-2.
Thanks!
