Version 1.0 (was - RE: grub-0.93-win32-iso9660.diff & talking about 1.0)

oops, I missed a lot in the last months. Having read
Okujisan's remarks about Version 1.0 I digged through
the archive to find his original posting (below) and
took a look at the TODO (current CVS) and extracted,
what is missing for 1.0 (also included below).

I could live with a Version 1.0 without the
missing features although I would prefer
having a finished multiboot specification
before releasing ... but I don't know, how
I could help.

There must be more people reading this list
with an opinion, aren't they ?

AFAIK, the current CVS version is quite stable, so I'm going to
release the next version really soon.

One question is what version number it should have. My original plan
was, as written in the file TODO, that 1.0 would be released after the
Multiboot Specification 0.7 and its new features were finished
up. But, honestly speaking, I'm not keen to add new features into the
current GRUB, even if they are really useful. The implementation
really sucks. After I developed PUPA (the next generation of GRUB), I
found myself not having willing to touch the source code any longer.

Thus, I'm now thinking about releasing the next version as 1.0 rather
than 0.94 and keeping it in "maintenance mode" forever.

What do you think?

Also, I think I need someone who maintains the current line of GRUB
instead of me, because I myself have many TODO items on PUPA before
importing it as GRUB 2.

-------------------------------------------------------- TODO ---

Things that must or should be done before 1.0:

* Finish the Multiboot Speicification 0.7. !!!

* Add more --disable-FOO options to configure, so that you can create a
  minimum GRUB image. This is useful for boot floppies because of the size
  restriction. !

* Implement a new version of track_int13, using Virtual 8086 Mode. !!!

* Add missing features of graphics support. !!

* Fix a bug about drive completion. It happens only if a network drive
  is available. !!
