Huge thanks to Feng for bringing the new etherboot on board :)

https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=6690

I have added some comments and patches to Feng's bug-grub item (linked above), namely:

- an incremental patch to bring 5.3.5 driver updates in (quite minor), and fix tg3 compile errors (again, quite simple)

- a cumulative gzipped patch from grub 0.93 to the current stage (useful for people who don't use CVS)

- a really nasty and highly unrecommended DHCP hack. DHCP in etherboot 5.3.5 seems to be broken in my network environment; some testing indicates it might be getting confused because there are 2 DHCP servers. The hack simply shortcuts the DHCP protocol, so the first OFFER gets used as an IP address, without acknowlegement! This is probably OK in real life, since the IP address will only be used for a very short time (enough to get TFTP the kernel in)

I update it:

http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/download.php?group_id=68&bug_id=6690&bug_fi
le_id=849 This patch is based on etherboot-5.3.4. It may support tg3 now, but the
driver hasn't been tested for I do not have a tg3 card. You may get the
latest GRUB on CVS, apply the patch and have a try :-).
The ethereboot-5.3.5 now has a new tg3 driver. If my patch doesn't work,
just replace it with new driver and modify the 'pci_driver' declaration
at the bottom of tg3.c.
Good luck.

Subject: Updating network support / tg3

Hi all,

In July, following my post of an e1000 patch for grub, there was some talk about updating grub to use the latest etherboot drivers. Has anyone done anything about this? I ask because I'm interested in getting tg3 network support going.

Ta
James
