To all.
New to grub. My intention is to double boot to DOS6.x and win2k.
Drive 1, partition 1: linux, 10MB (only to hold stage files and menu)
Drive 1, partition 2: fat, 450MB
Drive 2, partition 1: hpfs for win2k, 4Gb
Created floppy; get to grub> prompt. From here I can boot to (hd0,1)
which is DOS, and to (hd1,0) which is win2k (here I do a remap). Works
without a hitch.
The problem is when I try to boot from drive 1, which es where grub is
installed. All I get is
GRUB Geom error
The geometry printed on the Maxtor 7225AV (old, very old) is
c/h/s = 1002/16/52 BUT the one reported by the grub geometry command is
drive 0x80: c/h/s = 826/16/63. Is this a clue to the problem or just
a result of LBA translation?
This are the steps I use to attempt to install grub on disk1:
-> using small linux (slackware ZipSlack) copy stage1 and stage2 to
/boot/grub/ (partition (hd0,0), (Ext2 type))
Reboot with floppy until the grub> promt is available
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> setup (hd0)
stage1 exists ... yes
stage2 exists ... yes
stage1_5 exists ... no
Running install "... etc ... /boot/grub/menu.lst" succeded
Done
grub> reboot
Hardware is an old Micron, pentium III
I like the idea of using grub for this jub; many thanks in advance.
