cant uninstall grub

hey folks, I know this is a dead horse, but it still needs beating! ;)
I had tried to install grub on my fresh gentoo 1.4 installation.
For whatever reason, I couldnt get grub to boot my linux install.
so I dropped back to LILO (boooo hisss). anyway, lilo works fine and dandy 
to boot linux, but I do have a winblows 2k install on my disk as well. 
it was on hda1. so when I tell lilo to boot my hda1 win2k, it seems to do 
so, but all I get is 
GRUB
and nothing else..
I tried doing fdisk /mbr and that removed lilo, but when I try booting 
that hda1 win2k partition, I still get the word
GRUB 
when it tries to boot and nothing else..
can anyone help on this?
