`dd if=/dev/hda of=~/mbr.mbr bs=512 count=1` should do it, I'd use
hexcurse or biew to look at the contents in hex/binary then get a quick
ASCII conversion to see if you can make out readable strings to see what's
"gwoning". I don't think this is a Windows problem, but more like 3rd
party software running at boot. Use `msconfig` and or regedit to see
what's being run and check if you have rogue services installed.
