I understand. I myself also depend on GRUB Legacy for my own use. That's 
why I keep the maintenance of GRUB Legacy ongoing at some degree.

But if you really want to use GRUB Legacy, please consider contributing 
to GRUB Legacy. IMHO, GRUB should be supported by more community effort 
rather than by a very few people who feel responsibility. Note that 
GRUB is open to everyone, since it is Free Software, right?

I don't recommend switching to GRUB 2 at the moment, if you just intend 
to utilize GRUB. GRUB 2 is still only for developers who want a better 
implementation of GRUB. I want to aim at making GRUB 2 usable for 
ordinary users as the main goal of my work by reducing the workload on 
GRUB Legacy. I'm sure that it will take 3 months or more.
