Hi, I would like to boot Grub from my Netvista N2800 thinclient. It can boot from compact flash, but it needs to be ext2fs formatted, and the kernel filename needs to be set in the BIOS (e.g. linux.2x00). Can I boot a Grub image such as the CD stage 2 file directly, or must Grub be installed onto a bootblock?
There's a patch for making grub bootable from grub itself as a kernel (with the kernel command). However I've tried it and loading it from bootloader such as syslinux it does not work ok.
So... I think it won't work in your case.If I were you I will investigate in your bios,... about the kernel line and try to activate an hiphotetic chainloading boot.
If in the bios what you're writing is not a kernel name but a tftboot url... then you could build your own grub configured for your netcard save it to tftpboot server and then ask it from your Netvista N2800 thinclient.
You only can boot from your compact flash? Only with the kernel method? What do you want to do with Grub? I am curious. adrian15
