Where is the Grub2 Menu List

Since grub2 is no longer available in config files, there is no “clearly” documented method to list the current boot menu list.

Following multiple examples of google searches using “grub2 ubuntu 2012 boot menu list” produces no clear-cut method to list the current menu structure.

Should not “grub-set-default” have some option to “list” the current menu.  Am I really forced to reboot and take a picture of the boot menu and “hope” that they are numbered sequentially?

Or Should there not be a counter-part to “grub-set-default” such as “grub-menu-list”  and if there is (I haven’t found it), should it not be in “grub-set-default” since that is probably the next utility to use to change the boot order?
