I wanted to change the first option (Ubuntu [with 5.8.0.34]) to Ubuntu (with 5.4.0.62 ), so I opened the "Grub Customizer", created new menu entry copied the commands from the previous "Ubuntu" entry and pasted on the newly created "Ubuntu" entry, and changed the '8.0.34' to '4.0.62' on the linux and initrd commands. - So far so good!...
When rebooting I got exactly what I expected:
Ubuntu
Ubuntu
Advanced Opts for Ubuntu
Mem Tests
Win10
I noticed that I wanted them in the reverse order (the first "Ubuntu" is the one with 8.0.34 and the second is the one with 4.0.62).
I booted, opened "Grub Customizer", selected the bottom "Ubuntu" 5.8.0.34 entry and clicked the "move down selected entry or script" button. This got me an error message (that I haven't been able to reproduce) saying something like - could not move the entry. So I just selected the "Ubuntu" 5.4.0.62 and clicked the "move down selected entry or script". It worked. I saved it, rebooted and It was ok.
At this point i figuered I'd rather just move the 8.5.0.34 Ubuntu all the way down.
Once again, I opened the "Grub Customizer", selected the "Ubuntu" 8.5.0.34, and clicked the "move down selected entry or script" a bunch of times. It moved but left some 'copies' of itself scattered around!..... Tried to delete them, but they simply got unticked and kept showing... Tried renaming them - that worked - but still, I couldn't delete them. Moving them up and down, occasionally replicates the moved object.
Keeping it very cool and controled... I clicked the "Revert" button - that presented me with the previous configuration. Happy about it I clicked "Save", but I got the following error:
I had the second thought that this ment that all that I had messed up, hadn't been saved, so I simply quited the customizer and rebooted.
On reboot I was presented with the following grub menu:
Ubuntu
Advanced Opts for Ubuntu
Mem Tests
Win10
(the exact same one as before any changes I had made....)
"Oh well... Ii probably noticed I'm dumb and just got me the default. I'll just configure it again."
So I Opened yet again the Customizer. But instead of the 'default' configuration I had just seen during boot, I'm now presented with the mess I (unsuccessfuly?) tried to save:
When I tried to save it, I got the same error message as before.
Failing to be sure if the /etc/default/grub and /etc/grub./* files are ok... I'm reporting the issue.
I'm new to Linux so please let me know If I'm being to stupid.
Thanks for making Grub!

Jorge
