Follow-up Comment #1, bug #50382 (project gsl):
I, too, think that the autotools should be replaced with a more user-friendly,
contemporary alternative. CMake is definitely a good choice.
Alternatively, Meson (https://mesonbuild.com/) could be considered. It is
simpler to understand and maintain than CMake.
