   guile-1.5.4 looks good! I got a compile error when using
   --disable-deprecated.  Here's a patch:

thanks for the patch.  unfortunately, i believe it is counter to the
recent (non-published except in mailing list archives) decision to move
away from "foo_t" type names due to conflict w/ some standard or other.

the fact that i can't cite the reasoning by pointing to some design docs
can probably be considered a bug.  :-/

for now, could you try another approach that uses HAVE_* macros?
