Hi, Neil,
I'm using Guile 1.3.4. I tried 1.4, but it had major problems on my system.
(I'm planning on going back and documenting that, too, but I have to get gcc
up and running first.) I'm sorry for not including the version in my
report.

Many thanks for the report, but what version of Guile are you using???
I think that it must be incredibly old (perhaps `guile-iii'?), as this
bug is recorded in our ChangeLog as having been fixed in January 1997.
