It looks like Sun's make does not understand the "$<" construct, which

A fix is to replace the rule with
guile-procedures.txt: guile-procedures.texi
rm -f $@
makeinfo --force -o $@ guile-procedures.texi || test -f $@
I have done so in CVS already.
