[bug-gv] strange menu windows in cvs gv

I don't know exactly when it changed (not too long ago), but the gv in
CVS now is behaving differently wrt to the menus.  Now when I left-click
on any of the top menu items (State, Page, etc.),
(1) the menu appears in the upper-left of the window, instead of under
    the menu title, and
(2) the entire document display is blanked out with the brownish
    background color.

Also, another issue, the Open menu now brings up a window that is very
very tall (1575 pixels in my case), taller than my screen, much taller
than is needed to list all the files.  This is also new.

(Unrelated: it would be nice to have a cancel option in the Open menu.)

I can send screenshots if not clear.
