Thanks for your feedback.
- AUTHORS claims to be utf-8 but contains a non-utf-8
   character:
Fixed in git master.
- es.utf8.dat differs from the others that have upper-case UTF-8
and if I call it with .international: true and LANG=es_ES.UTF-8
   I get english strings (while de_DE.UTF-8, fr_FR.UTF-8, ja_JP.UTF-8,
it_IT.UTF-8 and ko_KR.UTF-8 seem to work)
Well, that is what I got from the spanish translator. I'll contact him.

But perhaps we have to rename the translation file.

- the frensh translations of the main buttons to the left are very
long (on 800x600 it's almost a third of the screen). I do not speak
frensh so do not know if or how they can be shortened.
I do not speak french either. I'll forward this point to the french translator.
- most translations seem to miss the "savepos" translation or not
translate it at all (e.g. German).
For the german translation: Well, after pressing "u" to invoke "savepos", I git a mostly translated screen, only the button "save" is missing a trnslation. See the attached screenshot. Except "Save" I do not see a missing translation. I'll take a look why save is not translated at all (but I have an idea: The localisation string of "save" have to be used at this peace of code, I guess it is not used).
- behaviour if fonts are missing is quite sub-optimal. With Japanese
and Korean one gets a warning to the console and ASCII gibberish
instead of texts. It might be better to detect those errors and
   switch back to unlocalized instead.
I do not get any warning (well, obviuosly I have these fonts available). OpenSuse deals with that problem as follows: Their version of Xaw3d makes missing font sets a hard error instead of a warning - therefore this problem cannot occur with OpenSuse.

The Xaw3d patches in the git Xaw3d repository mentioned in the README.I18N file shipped with GNU gv include this change.
