First of all, bugreports, user-feedback and so on helps. To test
GNU/Hurd on as-many-machines is always the easiest and best way.
After that, you can of course start reading the sources, make
suggestions, write device-drivers, translators, servers.
I don't think you need much assembler-knowledge, as you can surely find
sth to programm in the C-part of the OS ;) ...
Translating Documentation would rock, or even writing documentation ....
maybe a diary ? I love those diaries, "how I got my hurd running" or
something ... writing on those things for 3 Operating Systems myself :)
