Follow-up Comment #1:

Thanks.  This was a questionable optimization for an "ignorable" lambda.
"Ignorable" in this case means the variable 'thunk' is only called, never read
as a variable.  The bug probably happened because of improved data-flow
analysis.

I checked in a fix and test-case.
